Dora Murphy

Dora opened her eyes slowly as her alarm started going off she reached over and softly hit the button and laid back staring up at the ceiling of her little apartment in New Orleans, she sighed and closed her eyes again trying to remember the dream, it had been there but it had been gone the next....she sighed softly and sat up again reaching over taking the glass of water and taking a drink....it was 10pm....time to start what she called 'her day'

She got up off the bed and walked over to her window opening it and looking out at the quiet city, Mardi Grais had just ended, she'd tried to avoid the hustle and bustle of it the best she could, large crowds gave her the creeps....at least in this city it did, but that was because Dora could see a lot of things that many others couldn't....Clairvoyant perhaps, but for some strange reason she preferred the dead more then the living.

She moved into her bathroom and got a shower pulling on a pair of jeans and a black dress shirt over her small frame she let her raven hair fall down her shoulders and moved slipping on a pair of black converse shoes and picked up her bag petting her kitten on the head who had sleepily opened it's eyes giving her master the 'what are you doing' look. But her kitten should be used to this by now.

Dora moved out of her apartment and down the street she could hear ambulances, the city was still alive although many families were starting to sleep, the children were already in the world of dreams and soon daylight would come and while she slept the world would move around her....that was just....how she was....she preferred the night more then the day...

Nothing scared Dora, not even the deadliest of the deadly, it was almost comforting the strange and bizarre....she had been an orphan, so god only knows who her parents had really been, she'd been raised with the catholic nuns and there stories of the god and Jesus and Mary and the saints, but after that....what was there? She left when she was 17 pursuing school but found that even after trying she didn't like it, she was crossing the street to go into the cemetery when she'd seen a little girl standing on the steps of a dead and rotting house....Dora had tried to ask if she was alight but realized that the house was dead and so was the girl in front of her....and then it all went from there....she brought peace to those who had yet to find it....and eased the pain of the families who searched for it....how odd that she should live in a city where the dead thrived and the living well....the living eventually died.

She moved across the street now into Lafayette Cemetery and moved to one of the tombs where she knelt down and pulled out her equipment, she was doing some work for a family whose young daughter died while walking to her car at the Tulane Campus, the family had insisted on being there but she found it tedious when things like that interfered she closed her eyes as she started to light the black candles and set them in the figure of a pentagram on the steps of the tomb and moved to sit across the opposite wall for a moment before moving and sitting in front of it on her knees she pulled her shoes off and set a piece of Lavender down in the center and closed her eyes slightly, but something was around her that wasn't a ghost and it was making it almost impossible to focus on what was at hand...

whatever it was was making her really frustrated, she opened her eyes and looked around softly and then again....nothing....focus Dora this is what you do, she closed her eyes again and tried to focus but the presence was getting stronger.....she found herself tuning into the world around her trying to reach and feel what was bugging her....it was close.....

Louis de Pointe du Lac

Louis was back in New Orleans. He'd wanted to come and see what had happened to the city. After Katrina everything was different. The old houses...the places he used to know...gone. Wiped from existence like so many beautiful tragic things. Walking though Lafayette No.1 he moved among the tombs remembering nearly thirty years ago finding Lestat in that house. How times had changed. He'd been childed again...he shook his head moving touching the marble statues.

He knew there was someone in the cemetery, figuring it to just be kids like usual. His long brown hair pulled back in a que. He didn't like it down much anymore. His warm leather jacket more for look than warmth. On his hands gloves, his legs clad in black jeans and a pair of Nike's on his feet. His legs carried him swift and sure over the rocky and muddy terrain of the cemetery.

He could smell lavender in the air and images of a little blond girl floated through his mind. "Stay dead Claudia...stay dead baby." He shook his thoughts the dreamless sleep he was supposed to enter when the sun came up had been broken for the past several days. Images of the little girl. That hollow look in her eyes...that finger always pointed to him telling him he had done this. When would his soul rest?

Rounding the corner he stopped. Had he gone any farther he would have walked on the girl who was there. He just blinked taking a side step quicker than she could see. "What are you doing?" The words out of his mouth before he could stop them. His skin held a human look to it. His body warm from the fresh blood.

Dora Murphy

Dora had almost found it and then like a vision it was gone, and she'd let herself slip into what she called a meditative state, but it was in fact her tuning into finding the dead teenager, she had almost reached her hand out to touch the doorway to open it to let the girl out when a voice cut through her mind, something so sharp and clear it was like back feed on an amplifier at one of those concerts.

She squeaked as she felt herself snapped back and fell over onto the ground she took a moment before standing up coming almost toe to toe with the man only her face met his chest she looked up not catching the 'details' of him for a moment.

"Are you completely Mad!....you shouldn't come up on someone like that without making yourself known!.....Do you realize the damage you could of just done......" She wasn't yelling but she was making it known that what had just happened hurt, her brain was killing her right now.

She ignored the man and moved kneeling back down and picking out a pill bottle taking two little pills out and taking a drink of the green tea in her bag and then turned her attention back to the man in the leather jacket and that’s when she noticed the eyes and shook her head

"I would figure a vampire knew better....well? What is it you want?" She looked at him...his eyes seemed so....lost....so dead....so....sad.....

Louis de Pointe du Lac

Louis blinked at her. "Sorry?" A small smile played upon his lips. This human was interesting. "I didn't know what you were doing. I turned and almost stepped on you. I'm fairly sure my startling you is a lot less painful that me trying to extract my foot from the hole it would have made in you." He looked to the pentagram and the candle his brow raised.

"Are you trying to raise the dead dear? Most stay dead you know. Ghosts and such. I'm sorry if I scared you. It wasn't my intention." He looked to the crypt she was in front of. The engraving was new. Stepping around her stuff he walked over his fingers moving from his gloves as he pulled them off. His long fingers tracing the chiseled letters in the granite. "Such a young age to die. How did she pass if I might ask?" He stepped back putting his glove on looking up hearing mice running over the broken slag’s of marble in the distance. He could hear a couple over in section B starting to get it on hot and heavy. What they saw in doing that in a cemetery was beyond him. Shaking his head he spoke aloud. "People have no respect for the dead. No wonder so many roll over in their graves." He turned his green eyes lighting upon her features finally taking in everything he saw.

She was beautiful. She reminded him somewhat of Gabrielle, Lestats mother. And why that was didn't make any sense to him. But she did. Something about her. The barring? The way she carried herself? He didn't know. He'd have to think about that back in his house away from this place. Back in his own home.

He tilted his head looking at her. "Does the pentagram work really? And the candle? Or are they just tools to help you center yourself? Are you not afraid of the repercussions from the all mighty for what you're doing?"

Dora Murphy

Dora watched Louis for a moment as he walked around her and to the writing of the tomb she sighed softly taking another drink of her tea and trying to make her head stop pounding, one downfall of what she did, the damned headaches afterwards she sighed softly and looked down a moment at the candles and the incense she looked back up at Louis as he touched the letters reverently.

"I don’t know how she died, that’s what I’m trying to find out, I’m not trying to raise the dead, but this girl's case has been unsolved and the family just wants to know what happened....." she stopped talking a moment and sighed

"I have no idea why I'm talking to you or telling you anything, my work is private and I can't reveal anything more because it's a policy I have....." She knelt back down to try to focus again she redid the markings and emptied the wax out of the candles setting them where she needed to and looked at Louis quietly.

"The pentagram insures a safe barrier for me and the spirit so that she doesn't get sucked back into this realm and I don’t get sucked into hers....the candles help with the barrier and the incense is because I like the smell...." she looked at him and wrinkled up her nose.

"No god decides me fate, and if I am committing crimes against him then why is he allowing me to continue?..." she shrugged softly and looked at the markings and then gave him a sideways smirk.

"Look not to be rude, but I do need to get this done, this process takes awhile and then the paperwork....that’s the killer.....is there something I can help you with? because I doubt Vampire that you have all the time in the world to wait...." She gave him a knowing look and stood back up again, she hadn't lit the candles but turned her attention back to him.

"What’s your name?"

Louis de Pointe du Lac

He looked at her and raised a brow. Cocky little thing. He looked down at her stuff and stepped back. "My apologies again for disrupting your work here. Had I known you were in the midst of something important I would have just passed you completely. Perhaps next time you can post your schedule? That way we can avoid me interrupting you mid trance say?" He smiled teasing her not being mean.

Ah...his name. He looked at her for a moment studying her as she fidgeted under his gaze. "I'm not sure what you'd do with the information if I gave it to you. I'm known in circles and I don't know if your circles creep into mine." he could hear his servants talking about uninvited guests and he frowned. He hoped Lestat had not chosen to visit him. Then again the brat prince usually did what he wanted.

"My name is Louis. It was interesting talking with you Madam Lavender. Perhaps we'll meet again in my fair city. Who knows...next time perhaps you can nearly trip over me...pay back so to speak." He smiled and turned his hands in his pockets as he walked down the thin rows heading towards the gates. Someone was at his house and he didn't like that. He wondered who it was. Soon the little human he'd run into a distant memory as he cause the scare voices of his servants and was gone in a blink.
